What is BIM?
BIM stands for Building Information Modelling and is a new project process that is becoming increasingly popular in construction and design. By 4th April 2016, all public sector buildings will need to be using BIM by law, as it’s become an integral part of design and implementation. 3D CAD software is now a thing of the past, with better information and technology all stored within the BIM directory.
Project Collaboration
The intelligent software enables team collaboration on a new level. By granting architects, engineers and construction workers access to the same model-based software, everyone can view the necessary project information, from roofing details to air conditioning systems. It’s accessible anywhere so anyone involved in the project can access and make changes to the model when necessary.
Design Features
The ability to see a building project in 3D is really beneficial for imagining design elements and features. If an element in the design needs to change, BIM can coordinate the change in all views, keeping it consistent with the rest of the model. There’s an abundance of data stored in BIM which makes design element changes simple.
Project Management
BIM effectively streamlines a project, making it much easier for everyone involved. As a central source of building information, the entire workflow of the construction project is clearer, reducing problems while remaining cost-effective. There are also loads of deployment workbooks, help guides and overview checklists which makes learning and implementing BIM easy. By understanding how to use BIM effectively, you can really simplify project management for excellent results.
