You might spend a lot of time in your conservatory, but damage and age can sneak up on your conservatory roof without you really realising. Knowing when to get your roof replaced isn’t always easy but with more and more homeowners upgrading their roofing to solid and tiled conservatory roofing, it pays to look out for the signs.

Conservatory roofs come in all kinds of shapes and styles and can be made from a wide-range of materials, but they are all susceptible to harm.

Leaking

Leaking roofs are no fun especially in a conservatory, but a leaking roof is something every conservatory owner should prepare for because it is highly likely to be one of the earliest signs of your conservatory roof needing repairs.

Inspect the roof carefully to try and locate the leak and remember it might be coming from the frame, not the glass. If the damage is only slight you might be able to patch it, but a replacement roof is going to be the only way to stop the problem from reoccurring. Leaks in your conservatory can cause a huge amount of damage to their interior, your furniture and furnishings which may be irreparable.

Condensation

Condensation is the norm for a conservatory but if it becomes overbearing and it simply won’t stop then it could be a symptom of a larger problem. Condensation will almost always be related to your conservatory’s roof in some way, possibly due to the sealant between the glass or uPVC. A quick fix can be to keep your windows open or use a dehumidifier to keep a flow of clean air through the property however sometimes this is not enough. It might not seem like a big deal, but condensation can lead to mould growth and damp in your conservatory.

Unbalanced Temperature

If the nuisance of your conservatory being too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter is having an impact on the functionality of the room, it might be a sign that it’s time to replace your roof. Solid roofing is a much better insulator of heat, so you can get full use out of the space all year round. Heaters and draft excluders are only a temporary fix, while a solid conservatory roof will stand the test of time.

Noticeable Damage

If you spot cracks or damage to your conservatory’s roof then you should call in a professional right away to get it repaired. A professional roofer may be able to just repair a section of the roof but in more serious cases, a total roof replacement will be needed. Having a solid roof replacement instead of replacing with glass or uPVC will lengthen the lifespan of your conservatory roof and it’s strong features mean you won’t need to worry about further damage for at years to come.

Solid conservatory roofs

A solid roof is by far the best conservatory roof to get, enabling you to maximise your use of the space whatever the time of year. Solid roof tiles will also last much longer, and offer you greater protection against the elements and vandalism.
