Do you need to maintain your solid conservatory roof?
Unlike glass or polycarbonate conservatory roofs, solid roofs require virtually no maintenance at all as they have a much longer life span and can withstand whatever the British climate throws at them much better.
Solid conservatory roofs
Solid conservatory roofs last an average of around 50 years compared with 10-15 years for glass and polycarbonate (uPVC) roofs, and require very little maintenance. There are obviously some things that will need fixing if they go wrong, such as broken tiles or leaks but these are unlikely to happen with a sturdy conservatory roof.
If there is bad weather, (as is likely in the UK) a solid conservatory roof will stand up well to the task. However, it’s worth checking to make sure there is no damage after particularly bad storms as any leaks could lead to further damage and more expensive fixes. Once again, if we compare the solid roofs to the glass and uPVC roofs, the latter will be much more likely to break and need maintenance.
Glass and uPVC roofing
Glass and uPVC roofs require much more maintenance, the most obvious symptom being visually as you can easily tell if they are dirty and need cleaning. If they are not cleaned regularly then you will find moss and dirt can start to wear away the seals in the roof, leading to leaks and expensive repair jobs. They are also more susceptible to condensation build-up which causes damp and mould.
