Why should I have a low pitch roof?
While flat roofs do have their advantages, they do have a lot of potential problems as well. The biggest issue with flat roofs is that they offer no real drainage options, and when you consider the average weather in the UK is rain and wind, it starts to become more apparent that flat roofs could lead to serious problems. Flat roofs are typically installed using cheaper materials too which means a limited lifespan.
A low-pitched roof is a cost-effective alternative to a flat roof. A low-pitch roof offers a whole host of benefits that you won’t find with a flat roof and while they might be more expensive in the short term, you will get much better longer lasting results. When you consider the average climate in the UK, a low-pitched roof is the perfect choice and the best alternative to a flat roof.
Avoid Water Pooling
One of the biggest problems with a flat roof is the damage that rainwater can do, it might not seem like it’s doing anything, but those raindrops can add up! And when they do they can pool together and cause a surprising amount of damage. A flat roof, due to its flat design, just won’t be able to effectively drain any rainwater away.
With a low-pitched roof, you’ll be able to avoid this problem because the rainwater will easily be diverted by the gentle slope of the low-pitch in the roof. This means that they’ll be much less water pooling around the roof and therefore less risk of harm.
They Will Last Much Longer
A good, high-quality roof should last a long time and a low-pitched roof will do just that! This is partly due to what we’ve previously mentioned because a low-pitched roof is able to more effectively drain away rainwater. But it’s also because a low-pitched roof is made with stronger materials, flat roofs may be cheaper, but they are made with weaker materials which will give you a shorter lifespan.
They Are Waterproof
A low-pitched roof won’t just help divert rainwater, they are waterproof in their own right and they are usually made from high-grade waterproof materials. Leaks can be a common issue with roofs but with a high-quality low-pitched roof, it’s highly likely you’ll never experience one. Flat roofs just can’t compare when it comes to waterproofing.
Converting your flat roof to a low pitched roof will greatly enhance your roof’s lifespan and avoid many of the common issues that arise with pooling and leaking. Metrotile’s roof tiles can be installed as low as 10 degrees making them the perfect tile for a flat to low pitch conversion.
