If wind can get under an exposed edge, it can cause parts of your roof to begin to lift up, potentially causing a lot of damage.

There are a number of different types of flashing which tend to be designed to fit specific parts of your roof or other elements of your building. Which materials to use

The material used for flashing needs to be durable enough to stand up to decades of wind, rain and more, but flexible enough to allow it to be moulded and then adjusted in situ to provide a tight fitting installation. Metal and plastic are both popular choices, although rubber is also used in some circumstances.
