Low-Pitch Roof Replacement, Maghera Fire Station

Maghera Fire Station required a full roof replacement due to issues with the existing concrete tile installation. The previous tiles were installed at an insufficient pitch, leading to potential water ingress and structural concerns. To resolve these issues, Metrotile Slate .900 in Charcoal was chosen for its durability, low pitch capability, and long-term performance.

The original concrete tiles were installed incorrectly at too low of a pitch, compromising their effectiveness. The fire station required a solution that could be installed at a 12-degree pitch while ensuring full watertightness and long-term security. Additionally, the station needed a roof capable of handling regular foot traffic for maintenance purposes, as well as a system that could integrate solar panels efficiently.

Metrotile’s Metrotile Slate .900 profile was specified for this project as a reputable solution to solve the problems the existing fire station roof had.

• It can be installed at a minimum 12-degree pitch while maintaining full watertight integrity, backed by a 40-year warranty.
• Due to the fire station’s operational needs, the roof had to support regular footfall. The double-thickness profile of the Metrotile Slate .9 ensured durability and resistance to damage from walking.

Canavan Construction were contracted to complete the roof replacement. The project was completed on schedule, with the new roof providing improved performance, security, and longevity.
